About This Project

For this project the owner of the “2GETHER2” Fountaine Pajot Catamaran based in Pittwater came to us to get his vessel ready for a planned 10 year journey to cruise the Pacific Islands.

Our team put their heads together to create an impressive and reliable off grid system.

Starting at the heart of the ship we modified the battery compartment to fit a huge 750AH Lifeline AGM battery bank. To run the boat we installed a Victron 5000VA Quattro Inverter Charger to accommodate the boats 240V circuits out at sea. These included three air conditioning units, a water maker, induction stove top,coffee machine, washing machine and the AC outlets. With an inbuilt 220 amp battery charger the Victron unit allows the batteries to recharge at a higher charge rate eliminating long charging periods between cycles.

We also installed 1440W of Victron solar panels to the boat to charge the vessel while sailing. We calculated this system would charge 100A amps to the house batteries through two Victron 100/50 MPPT Bluetooth solar controllers. We also modified the engines alternator to use a smart external regulator to give another 120 amps to the batteries whilst the starboard engine is running. These components covered all areas of charging the vessel and it’s amazing to see how much power you can generate with solar.

Our boating community calls this “the solar farm” due to the size of the targa and solar panels and also the power generation.

To see the boat through the 10 year trip, it also needed other essential items. We added a Rainman watermaker that produces 140L/H, additional B&G components to an already existing system including a NAC-3 Autopilot System, a Zeus 3 12’’ Chartplotter and Halo Radar, WiFi,  a Smart TV, an Iridium External Antenna, electronic battery switches and a new AC switchboard relocated to starboard cabin. All bilges, pumps and switches were replaced as well as all the mast lights to Sealed LED lights.

The vessel is now headed for Melbourne before departing for an extended cruise of East Australia and onto New Caledonia and the Pacific.
